We’re sure there are a lot more than these, but here’s what we have so far for web-only, episodic “TV-type” series:

  • Something To Be Desired – Long-running show filmed in Pittsburgh with an unpaid cast featuring a group of 20-somethings trying to figure out what to do with their lives. Categories: low-budget, indie, comedy, drama.
  • Prom Queen – High-concept, big-budget series involving high school students and some kind of obscure murder mystery from Michael Eisner’s new media company Vuguru. Original series ran for 80 episodes, each about 90 seconds. Second season planned. Categories: Corporate-hip, drama, high-end production values.
  • The In-Betweens of Holly Malone – NYC-based series trying to be a mashup of “Friends” and “Sex and the City.” From a NYC video production house. So far, 23 episodes and counting. Categories: NYC-hip, comedy.
  • The Burg – Brooklyn-based series about hipper-than-thou 30-somethings. So far, 16 “full-length” episodes (12-20 minutes) and 16 shorts.

Coming soon: “The All-For-Nots” – a comedy “mockumentary” series featuring an indie rock band’s adventures while on tour. (for Vuguru, by Dinosaur Diorama Productions, which does The Burg. A total of 24 weekly seven-minute episodes are planned, each taking place in a different city, starting sometime in the fall.

  1. Thanks for the STBD mention. You did however miss at least a few dozen good “TV-like” series out there. A few to watch:

Chad Vader: Day Shift Manager (although there hasn’t been a new one in a while)
    Break A Leg
    Mr. Deity
    Tiki Bar TV
    WestAcre TV
    Elected
    Heathens (a western!)
    It’s JerryTime!
    Galacticast
    Goodnight, Burbank

And tons more at Blip TV or Network2.

  2. Eric: Thanks for the tip on these series. I am going to check them out. Continued good luck with STBD.
