Why PST files are so important? They are important because they represent the centralized place for data and email storage. All the information pertaining to your Outlook Express emails, contacts, personal folders, calendars etc., is stored in the Outlook PST file.
What you may not realize though is that PST files are susceptible to several different types of problems. Sometimes they may reach critical size (over 2gb) or become simply corrupted. The trouble with PST files is that they are notoriously unstable; they are easily corrupted, and the larger they get the more likely data will be lost.
When PST Files Become Damaged or Corrupt.
When your Outlook PST files are damaged or corrupt due to various reasons and you can’t open them in Microsoft Outlook, you can use either the Inbox Repair Tool or third party applications to scan the PST files and recover the data from these files.
