In November 2005, Google announced that the analytics tracking software then known as Urchin would be renamed Google Analytics and would be available at no cost to all Web site owners. Google Analytics provides detailed statistics about your Web site and allows you to efficiently monitor important aspects of your Web site from one centralized location. Google Analytics provides detailed reporting features including graphs and charts to give you a visual look at your Web site statistics.
Google Analytics is available in a variety of languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, and German. You can access Google Analytics with your Google account.
If you do not have a Google account, you may open one for free at www.google.com/accounts. If you already have a Google account, you can log in to Google Analytics at www.google.com/analytics. The only requirement for signing up for Google Analytics is a valid e-mail address. Once you have created your account and logged in to Google Analytics, you may add your first Web site profile. Adding a new Web site profile to your Google
Analytics account is as simple as entering your Web site address and selecting your time zone. You are then provided with a piece of code you paste into your Web pages, and within 24 to 48 hours, you can view your reporting data. If you own multiple Web sites, you can add a profile for each site, and access each site’s reports from the home page of your Google Analytics account.
The data provided by Google Analytics allows you to make accurate, informed decisions about everything from search-engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising success, to your Web site design, linking partners, and marketing campaigns. Google Analytics is an extremely cost-effective and robust tracking and Web-site–analytics software program that allows you to effectively analyze and monitor your Web site statistics in near real-time.
If you have multiple sites that you want to track with Google Analytics, you can add additional Web site profiles. Once you add additional Web site profiles and log in to your Google Analytics account, a drop-down menu that includes all your profiles appears. There is currently no limit to the amount of Web sites you can track with Google Analytics.
Google Analytics gives you the option to grant additional users the ability to view your Web site profiles. This is done by entering the Access Manager from the initial Settings page, and clicking Add User. You must then enter the e-mail address of the person to whom you want to grant access, as well as his or her first name and last name. Please note that the e-mail address you enter must already be a valid Google account. If the user does not have a Google account, he or she can sign up for free at www.google.com/accounts.
Next, select the account type, which either limits the additional user to a view-reports-only setting, or grants him full administrative abilities. Google Analytics allows you to restrict or grant user access to reporting features of your choosing.
