I'm not sure about the 'simpler process' thing though. I've never had a problem with syncing my AppleTV it's totally automatic to the point that while everyone talks about the Mac/PC being an intermediate step it's transparent. The only people with config issues are technophiles trying to re-invent the wheel and they love creating those problems precisely so they can solve them!
